Grizzly G0561 Bandsaw Review
I was looking for suggestions for the Best Automatic Band Saw, both for my requirements & more importantly for my wallet. So I went and had a word with a man who knows these things.
My neighbor Cecil has one of these in his garage. I’ve used it to make cuts in steel / iron and aluminum, mostly, while doing reno projects. It’s powerful, reliable, and old Cece tells me it’s pretty easy to clean. He dropped more coin on it than it actually costs, and if I didn’t see the real price for myself, I would have believed it was worth what he paid. This automatic band saw is as slick as the fancier rigs in the shop at my day job.
Automatic Band Saw Features
The main feature for me is it’s value. I usually see that word and I think, “it isn’t as good as the more expensive one, but it’s cheaper and almost as good”. The way I mean it is “it is as good as the one that costs more but it costs less”. For the projects I do at home, and on side contracts, it’s perfect. I’m happy, I’ve found what I consider to be one of the best automatic band saw machines.
Reviewers says this about the features:
This large capacity Metal-Cutting automatic band saw has a small footprint as well as being completely mobile! Designed to cut 7″ round and 7″ X 12″ rectangular stock, this machine also features hydraulic downfeed control, coolant system, blade brush and includes the blade! It also has:
- An automatic shut-off
- A hydraulic feed control
- A quick positioning vise
Yes, this is all accurate, and the controls for downfeed work great, but the features section doesn’t mention anything about the rinky dinky table piece it comes with for making vertical cuts.
This past summer, I made a custom trailer for my quad. I used solid metal bars and, of course, Cecil’s Griz band saw. Well, when I was doing some of the vertical cutting that my trailer frame design calls for (1/4″ angle), one of the first pieces cut wrong.
I am a measure twice and cut once guy most days, so I knew I had the measurement right. Sure enough, the cut was off because the table was bending slightly under the weight of the piece I cut! I’m in the process of making my own piece to replace the thin factory one. You’ll likely have to do the same if you get this product and need to make consistent and accurate vertical cuts.
Another thing is: it’s heavy! If Cecil had read the online reviews, he would have known this going in. Its 343 durable and thick cast iron pounds are no corporate secret. But, what irks me are the wheels. So much thought and effort went into building and designing this excellent machine, and the wheels are flimsy. The one wheel is ready to go, and I don’t know what Cecil will do when it breaks off.
When I look at the other saws in the same price range, all I read is how they are too light and have flimsy bases. And, I think the weight is actually a good thing, but I haven’t had enough experience with the flimsy competition to say for sure. Maybe your neighbor has a JET or a Northern Tool that you can test out. Apparently, they’re not as reliable or sturdy and they’re all made in the same factory in China. Nothing against China, they have nice people, and a great wall, I just don’t know much quality stuff coming out of their factories.
I know motors very well through my work, and, I know the motor on the Griz (1 Horsepower) is ideal for what it does. I read online that the other automatic band saws have smaller motors.

Pros & Cons
|Value for your dollar! As powerful and dependable as the pricier one, but at under 1000$, it’s not as much money.
Hydraulic downfeed rocks.
Easy to use
It’s solid but mobile (good combo for as long as wheels last).
It’s not made in the same Chinese factory as all the other saws
|Vertical cut table is rinky dink.
It’s heavy and the wheels are frail (bad combo?)
It’s made in Taiwan
Final Thoughts On The Best Automatic Band Saw
Listen, final answer, I would recommend this product to myself if my neighbor Cecil moved away. He’s a wicked guy who got ripped off on the price, but I’d miss the saw almost as much if he left. I’d buy it because of the value and performance, and that it has less of the common problems with smaller rigs. The Grizzly 7 x 12” Metal Cutting Bandsaw is worth buying over its competitors. It’s also worth writing a review for your neighbor if that’s all it takes to keep using his saw. I love my G0561 and I’m so glad I took the advice of a user of the product.
